Why Centred Physiotherapy?
One of the foundations of the physiotherapy profession is offering patient “Centred” care. That means care that takes into account all aspects of a patient’s life. Things like your work, your hobbies, your responsibilities, your goals, the things that nourish you and even the things that stress you.
Sarah believes exceptional care happens when both the therapist and client are “Centred” and working on these shared meaningful goals. For Sarah this is achieved by scheduling ample time and by offering one-on-one visits in the comfort of your home. Sarah’s approach is grounded in extensive post-graduate training, clinical experience and evidence-based practices.
Sarah gets to the “Centre” of the problem at hand by using an integrative approach to treatment including a detailed biomechanical exam, advanced training in manual therapy, thoughtful prescriptive exercise, and complementary tools such as acupuncture, yoga and mindfulness practices.
Through supportive listening Sarah connects with each client around what is meaningful to them and eagerly works with other health care providers such as family physicians and allied health practitioners to create a team approach to care.
About Sarah
Sarah is a registered physiotherapist who offers a client-centred and biopsychosocial approach to care. She integrates clinical expertise and post-graduate training in manual therapy and exercise, with yoga, acupuncture, and mindfulness practices.
After having her own children, Sarah was also inspired to become a women’s and paediatric pelvic health physiotherapist.
Sarah obtained a Masters of Science in Physical Therapy from the University of Alberta in 2008 after earning an Honours Bachelor of Kinesiology from McMaster University in 2005. A commitment to continuing education and a compelling drive to further understand the complexities of the body inspired Sarah to pursue a Masters in Clinical Science in Manipulative Therapy from Western University in 2013 and to become a Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Manipulative Physiotherapy (FCAMPT).
Sarah is a certified yoga instructor with specialized training in prenatal and restorative yoga as well as yoga for scoliosis. Sarah’s strength as a yoga teacher is rooted in the union of her knowledge of anatomy and her warm and caring nature. Sarah strives within each class to meet the needs of every student and for each student to know the class was meant just for them. Most of all, Sarah wishes to share the benefits of yoga with every “body”.
“CAMPT-Certified™ physiotherapists are Fellows of the Canadian Academy of Manipulative Physiotherapy (FCAMPT) that have completed post-graduate education and attained internationally- recognized qualifications in hands-on therapy. We provide focused treatment based on research-guided techniques that speed up patient recovery while educating them about their condition to reduce the risk of relapse.”
